RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Currently working on an independent retrospective research project in collaboration with Dr. Mark Crnkovich, Chairman of Dept. of Radiation Oncology at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH, with the purpose of evaluating the rate of recurrence over five years in patients with intermediate risk prostate cancer treated with either radiotherapy (RT) or radical prostatectomy (RP), and the importance of perineural invasion (PNI) as a risk factor for recurrence.
Previous research experience includes working with the double mutants of gamma-tubulin gene, and their progression through the cell cycle. Gamma-tubulin, discovered in 1989 by Dr. Oakley, is a key protein involved in the formation of mitotic spindle, and the project involved manipulating this protein with targeted chemotherapeutic agents to assess which ones rendered the protein particularly unstable. I wrote and successfully defended an Honors thesis based on this research. Sept 1999-June 2002, Dr. Berl Oakley’s Lab at OSU Dept. of Molecular Genetics. <oakley.2@osu.edu>
** Spurlock's recent project is a television program called 30 Days. In each episode, a person spends 30 days immersing him or herself in a mode of life markedly different from their norm (working at Wal-Mart, being in prison, living with a gay person, etc.), while Spurlock discusses the relevant social issues involved. FX began airing the show in June 2005. In the premiere episode, "Minimum Wage," Spurlock and his fiancée lived for thirty days in the Bottoms neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio, earning minimum wage, with no access to outside funds.
