Participation in the medical symposia of the 17th Days of BHAAAS will be accredited for Continuing Medical Education (CME) by the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton.

  • Speakers will be awarded 20 CME credits
  • Attendees (listeners) will be awarded 12 CME credits

 

BHAAAS will issue electronic CME certificates to all eligible participants upon completion of the symposia.

Obesity Beyond the Obvious: Under-Recognized Complications and Clinical Impact

The focus of the symposium is to address the broad consequences of obesity beyond cardiometabolic risk, with particular emphasis on reproductive health, mental health, and cancer-related outcomes, as well as emerging therapeutic approaches. Call for Abstracts

We invite all participants to submit their abstracts and contribute to the scientific program of the 17th Days of BHAAAS. You can submit your abstracts HERE.

Abstract submission is optional but welcome. In case you opt not to submit an abstract, a title of your presentation is necessary but this submission of Topic only must be first approved by the symposia chairs.

All abstracts, if submitted, must be written in English.

The presentations can be delivered in either English or in BHS language regardless of the symposium, although we encourage presentations in English.

All abstracts submitters must register for the conference.

 

Instructions for medical abstract submission

Type of presentation:

Original research,

Systematic review,

Topic review.

Title:

The title of the abstract should be short and concise.

Author Information:

All authors’ names (full first name followed by family name, separated by a comma from the next name),

All authors’ affiliations/institutions.

Abstract Structure:

For “Original research” and “Systematic reviews”, the abstract needs to have the following subtitles: Background, Aim, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

For “Topic review” (nonsystematic, narrative reviews), the first paragraph should be a brief Objective of the review, followed by the Topic Review paragraph, and ending with the brief Conclusion.

Character / Word Count:

Maximum 250 words total excluding the title, names of the authors, and the authors’ affiliations

English language:

Authors not proficient in the English language should have their abstract edited by a professional biomedical English language specialist.

 

Important Dates

March 22, 2026 - Deadline for submission of abstracts 

April 6, 2026 - Corrected/revised abstracts submission by authors

April 15, 2026 - Final decision of accepted abstract sent to authors

May 15, 2026 - Symposia program finalized

May 21, 2026 - Deadline for registration

June 4-7, 2026 - Presentation of abstracts at the symposia

Guidelines for abstract review and acceptance

The chair and co-chairs are responsible for the first review and the rejection of abstracts that do not fulfill basic criteria related to quality, context, and [self] plagiarism. The chair or co-chairs will notify the authors of the abstract rejection. The chair and co-chair will have to finalize this step by April 10.

Abstracts that are accepted (abstracts that fulfill scientific/scholarly criteria) by the chair and co-chairs must be then converted from .pdf format to .doc format respecting the following structure:

1. Title

2. List of all authors with affiliation

3. Body of the abstract with separated paragraphs of different sections (e.g., introduction, aim, method, results, and conclusion; or objective, topic review, and conclusion)

4. List of keywords

If any of the above-mentioned parts are missing or erroneous, the CHAIR AND CO-CHAIR should contact the authors, return them the abstract in .doc format, and ask them to correct the errors. Authors should do this in the following 2 weeks and return the corrected format to the chair and co-chair.

Corrected and finalized abstracts in .doc format, chairs should compress them in .ZIP format and send them to the medical section review committee on the ([email protected]), by April 6, 2026.

The review committee will evaluate all abstracts based on technical criteria propagated on the web page and send feedback to the chair and co-chairs if a second revision is needed. 

The due date for authors to make second revisions and send abstracts back to the review committee will be April 15, 2026.

 

After the revision of the abstracts submitted, each author will be notified of the abstract acceptance. For authors who opted for E-poster submission, instructions are as follows, but please bear in mind that even if you apply for E-poster YOU STILL HAVE TO SUBMIT THE ABSTRACT JUST CHOOSE POSTER PRESENTATION option.

For E-poster, the format will be PORTRAIT, ratio 9:16, PDF file.

The chair and co-chairs are encouraged to strengthen abstract publication criteria to focus on quality, originality, and scholarly value. The medical section review committee will be dedicated to maintaining these criteria.

Medical Student Symposium

Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences invites medical students to submit their abstract for the BHAAAS Medical Students Symposium as a part of the 17th Days of BHAAAS from June 4th to June 7th in Sarajevo.

Abstract submission will be open from February 27th until April 18th.

Abstracts will be thoroughly evaluated by the Committee, including renowned professors and members of BHAAAS, and the ones of superior quality will be selected for the presentation.

The BHAAAS Medical Students Symposium is a unique opportunity for young researchers, medical students to showcase their research and gain valuable insights for its improvement.
