Exchange of experiences, contemporary clinical approaches and multidisciplinary cooperation were the focus of the International Symposium in Orthopedics and Trauma - "Meeting of the Minds", held as part of the 17th Day of BHAAAS in Sarajevo.
The symposium brought together experts from the fields of orthopedics, traumatology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as modern approaches to pain management. The latest achievements, clinical experiences and examples of good practice from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and the United States of America were presented through invited lectures, podium presentations and presentations by residents.
The presenters of the symposium were Eldin Karaiković, MD from Chicago, USA, member of BHAAAS, Mirza Bišćević, MD from Sarajevo, president of AOTBH, Maki Grle, MD from Mostar, Mehmed Jamakosmanović, MD from Sarajevo and Mahir Jašarević, MD from Tuzla.
As a CME-accredited professional meeting, the symposium provided an important space for education, knowledge exchange and connection of doctors of different generations, with a special emphasis on supporting young specialists and residents.
And this year, the EKCREF Foundation, dedicated to the advancement of medical knowledge and education, awarded prizes for the three best works by residents presented at the 17th International Symposium on Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Trauma: "Meeting of the Minds", held on June 6, 2026 at the Holiday Hotel in Sarajevo.
First place and a prize in the amount of 300 KM was won by Dr. Avdo Kurtović and Dr. Adnan Kesetović from the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Tuzla University Clinical Center for the work "Outcomes of complex total knee arthroplasty - A series of challenging cases".
Second place and a prize in the amount of 200 KM was won by Dr. Kenan Ćustović from the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology of the University Clinical Center Tuzla for the paper "Role of Biology and Cell Therapies in Fracture Nonunion ".
Third place and a prize in the amount of 100 KM was won by Dr. Hajrudin Pašalić from the University Clinical Center Sarajevo for the paper "3d printing and personalized implants in modern orthopeadics".
Through this initiative, the EKCREF Foundation continues to support young medical professionals, foster academic excellence and contribute to the exchange of knowledge in the field of orthopedics and traumatology.
Such meetings once again confirm the importance of the BHAAAS Day as a platform that connects experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora, opens space for new professional collaborations and makes a concrete contribution to the development of the medical profession in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
