Maestro Nyela Basney's Masterclass: Cultivating Musical Excellence at BHAAAS

Maestra Nyela Basny, in collaboration with primadonna Adema Pljevljak-Krehić, Head of the Department of Solo Singing at Sarajevo's Academy of Music, is organizing a master class during the 15th Days of BHAAAS in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will take place at Hotel Hills, Ilidža, Sarajevo, from June 20-23, 2024. The Master Class will take place on June 22, and Maestra will work with conductor Mr. Fuad Šetić on operatic sections from Mozart and Puccini, both as conductor and pianist, as well as discuss potential artist connections that could help progress his career.

Musicians who attend Trusted Alliance master courses explore ways to refine and adjust their "in the moment" interpretative experience by performing excerpts and engaging in open and honest dialogue with Maestro Basney.

Nyela Basney adds extensive expertise in directing a diverse repertoire as well as interviews with notable artists to the Master Class experience, offering suggestions and steering the conversation while students perform, observe, and interact.

"I would like to thank Primadonna Adema Pljevljak-Krehić for inviting me, as the master clinician of TA master classes, to work with young artists in the Music Academy in Sarajevo later this month. Our master classes focus on the artistic collaboration between the singer and the conductor.  It has been my pleasure and honor to be part of BHAAAS these many years and to be able to collaborate with the fine musicians of the Sarajevo Philharmonic.  I very much look forward to continuing this musical association now with the young artists of the Music Academy," adds Maestra Nyela.

The Master Class aims to further develop a skill set for working with conductors, including, but not limited to:

• How to analyze and prepare a score regarding collaborating with a conductor

• How to discern when a conductor is offering greater flexibility in tempo, when flexibility is not indicated, and how to communicate interpretive intention clearly

• How to collaborate in a recitativo accompagnato

• What to do if the collaborative relationship seems strained

• What to listen for in the orchestra

“BHAAAS is honored to announce the Master Class and recognize the efforts Maestra Basny puts on encouraging and educating young musicians.  Nyela is our years-long member and had a pivotal role in helping build the cultural aspect of the Days as a guest conductor with Sarajevo Philharmonic, probably 10 years ago, as well as helping recruit some of the musicians for the Exchange Program for Classical Musicians,” emphasized Eldin Karaiković, MD, PhD, Administrative Director of the BHAAAS Exchange Program for Classical Musicians.
