As part of the hepatology program on the 17th Day of BHAAAS, a successful expert conference was held dedicated to current topics in the field of portal hypertension, with a special focus on porto-sinusoidal vascular disease (PSVD) and portal vein thrombosis. Through a series of lectures and expert discussions, the latest findings on the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of these complex conditions, which increasingly represent a challenge in everyday clinical practice, were presented.
The special value of this year's program was the international representation of lecturers and participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Croatia, Germany, Slovenia and North Macedonia. The exchange of experiences between experts from different health systems enabled a high-quality discussion about modern diagnostic algorithms, the role of radiological and pathohistological methods, anticoagulant therapy and a multidisciplinary approach to patients with portal circulation diseases.
Among the key conclusions, the importance of early recognition of PSVD as an often underdiagnosed cause of portal hypertension, the need for timely diagnosis of portal vein thrombosis, and the importance of an individualized approach to treatment are highlighted. The need for closer cooperation between hepatologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, hematologists and pathologists was also emphasized in order to improve diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.
The hepatological council once again confirmed the importance of BHAAAS as a unique platform for connecting experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora, enabling the exchange of knowledge, the establishment of new professional contacts and the development of future joint projects. The participants expressed their interest in continuing cooperation through joint educational programs, research projects and the development of regional recommendations in the field of hepatology and portal hypertension.
The held program made a significant contribution to improving professional knowledge and strengthening international cooperation, which represents one of the fundamental goals of BHAAAS and an important step towards the further development of hepatology in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The symposium was chaired by Assoc. Dr. Amila Mehmedović, head of the Department of Clinical Hepatology at the Clinic for Gastroenterohepatology KCUS.
Prominent international experts participated in the program: prof. Pierre-Emmanuel Rautou from France, prof. Tajana Filipec Kanižaj from Croatia, Dr. Elena Curakova Ristovska from North Macedonia, Dr. Ademir Turšić from Germany and Dr. Jan Drnovšek from Slovenia, who presented the latest achievements and clinical practices in the field of hepatology through professional lectures.
