The fifteenth in a row, the prestigious Hero of Healthcare award in the city of Phoenix in the American state of Arizona, this year went to the American psychiatrist with Herzegovinian roots, Dr. Esad Boskail. Esi od Počitelji, the award was presented at a glamorous ceremony at the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess, which is organized every year by the Phoenix Business Journal in nine categories. Of course, the competition in each category was hellishly tough, and the aforementioned prize, Dr. Boškaila, was achieved by measuring the strengths of the professional and life stories of several finalists, nominated by their parent institutions and organizations, which, let us remind you, employ over 2,500 doctors in the mentioned city area. In an appropriate article about the Hero of Health in the Phoenix Business Journal, it is pointed out that Dr. Boškailo once spent a year in six different concentration camps in BiH, from which he was able to emerge as a helpless and paralyzed victim. Instead, Boskailo decided not to be a victim but a victor, who now applies his experiences working as a psychiatrist at the largest psychiatric hospital in Phoenix, specializing in trauma and treatment of its consequences. They also recall the fact that after the camp, at the end of the war, he was recruited by Doctors Without Borders and then came to Chicago, where he finally met with his separated family. “I believe this is my second life,” Dr. tells the Phoenix Business Journal. Esad Boskailo, former editor of Zambak magazine, co-author of the excellent book "Wounded I Am More Awake," published by Vanderbilt University Press in April 2012, and current associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Arizona. When asked by the editor of the Phoenix Business Journal which person had a decisive influence on his life, he mentioned Che Guevara, the legendary revolutionary and pediatrician, who, according to him, overcame and overcame serious illnesses, such as asthma, in his childhood, after which he was a champion runner. and then left a comfortable life and wealth for the sake of helping poor people in other countries. Of all musicians and groups, he puts Led Zeppelin first, while he would prefer to have dinner with Rumi, Che Guevara, or Jimi Hendrix, while his favorite movie is Life is Beautiful and the book Tvrđava by Meša Selimović. Of all the organizations, he singles out the Bosnian American Academy of Sciences and Arts (BHAAAS), which, he says, is a unique group of 300 scientists and artists who, by sharing knowledge, help their motherland, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His favorite vacation spot is, of course, Počitelj, when asked what he would change in his career if he could, he answers by saying that he would be a psychiatrist again.
