Ismar Volić's new book "Making Democracy Count: How Mathematics Improves Voting, Electoral Map, and Representation"

Active member and former president of BHAAAS Ismar Volić is the author of the book Making Democracy Count: How Mathematics Improves Voting, Electoral Maps, and Representation, which was officially published yesterday by Princeton University Press. "Making Democracy Count" explores how mathematics can play a key role in improving our democratic processes, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring a more inclusive system that works for everyone.

"As we go through challenging times for democracy, marked by growing divisions and partisanship, it is critical to explore ways to repair our civic infrastructure." - points out prof. Prof. Volić is a full professor of mathematics at Wellesley University in Boston, and is one of the guest lecturers at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies in Global Studies at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Sarajevo. His research area is algebraic topology. He is the author of thirty papers and two books, the editor of several collections of papers, and he has given over 200 lectures in twenty countries. He is one of the founders of the Institute for Mathematics and Democracy, which is dedicated to education, research and spreading awareness of the role of mathematics in politics.
