On March 7, a donor evening of the Bosana Foundation was held in Los Angeles, where more than 75,000 dollars were collected to provide scholarships for students in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With an extremely successful 2019, the foundation exceeded the total figure of one million dollars in donations collected during the eleven years of its existence. The annual donor gathering in Los Angeles was attended by nearly 200 guests. The US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eric Nelson, spoke about the importance of the Foundation as well as its cooperation programs with the American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Opera singer Vedrana Kalas took part in the program, accompanied by Željko Marasović, Zan Messia & Midnight Mission Band, and DJ Valida entertained the guests at the after party. A panel discussion was held at which Sanja Kulenović, Majla Ćusto, Marsela Pećanac, Mahira Tanović, and Dženita Pašić, who achieved their careers in America, spoke. They talked about the importance of higher education as well as the position and role of women in their professions. The panel was led by our successful director, Sabina Vajraca. The traditional "Do Gooder" award this year was awarded to Dženita Pašić for her many years of work and contribution to the Foundation as well as to Bosnia and Herzegovina through her involvement in BHAAAS. Since its founding, Bosana has provided scholarships for more than one hundred Bosnian students, as well as programs for their professional development in the form of attending conferences and seminars, as well as mentoring programs and training. Every year, ten to fifteen new students have the opportunity to become Bosana's students and thereby expand the possibilities of their education and professional development.
Since this year, Bosnia has recorded another significant success. Former scholarship holder of Bosana, Lejla Mušanović, is the first permanent employee of the Foundation, where work is based exclusively on volunteering. Lejla Mušanović and Matea Jevrić, former scholarship recipients, were present at this year's event and addressed the guests on behalf of all Bosnian students. Every year, the sponsors covered all the costs related to the event itself so 100 percent of the donations went directly to scholarships for young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the event itself, a book written by one of the Bosnian students, Benjamin Avdić, together with his colleague Lama Teletović, was promoted. "Hero without a Cape" is an illustrated book for children with audio recordings, whose main characters—children with disabilities—are portrayed as superheroes who have hidden superpowers.
