Under the auspices of the Office of the Sarajevo Canton Government for Diaspora Affairs, an agreement was signed on the implementation of a project within the Program for Supporting Cooperation Projects and Strengthening Ties with the Diaspora and Countries of the Region in Sarajevo Canton for 2025. The purpose of the agreement is to strengthen institutional cooperation and connect the Bosnian and Herzegovinian diaspora with academic, scientific, and professional institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The beneficiary of the funds is the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS).

We remember Dr. Faruk Turkić, an outstanding pathologist and physician who passed away on September 10, 2025. For more than 50 years, he was devoted to pathology, serving for many years as Head of the Department of Pathology at Zenica Cantonal Hospital, and later continuing his work at Tešanj General Hospital. He made a particularly important contribution during and after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, working on exhumations and the identification of victims. His humanistic mission is continued today by his daughter Majda Turkić, a long-standing member of BHAAAS.

Prof. Dr. Zlatan Akšamija was recently elected President of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), succeeding Dr. Adnan Begović in this role. As a teenager, he fled war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina with his family to the United States, where he now lives and has built his academic career. His doctoral dissertation, “Thermal Effects in Semiconductor Materials and Devices,” was supported by a scholarship from the U.S. Department of Energy.
