The Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ANUBiH), is organizing a lecture by BHAAAS member Dr. Denita Hadžiabdić Guerry entitled “Fulbright Without Borders: Global Opportunities for Scholars, Students, and Future Leaders.”
The lecture will take place on September 22, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the ANUBiH amphitheater and will focus on Fulbright opportunities and application procedures.
The program is intended for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and scholars from Bosnia and Herzegovina interested in the opportunities offered through the Fulbright Program. It will also present opportunities for U.S. scholars and researchers wishing to participate in Fulbright programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Participants will receive practical information about available award types, eligibility requirements, application procedures and strategies, and ways to prepare a strong and competitive application. The lecture aims to present Fulbright not only as one of the world’s most prestigious academic programs but also as a pathway to academic and professional development, leadership growth, and long-term international collaboration.
Dr. Hadžiabdić Guerry will also share her personal academic and professional journey from Sarajevo to the United States, as well as her continued connection with Bosnia and Herzegovina through international education, scientific research, and knowledge exchange. She will speak in particular about her experience as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar in Ghana.
Science, Mentorship, and International Collaboration
Dr. Denita Hadžiabdić Guerry is a professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is a former Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Ghana and a former Fulbright U.S. Scholar Alumni Ambassador. She currently serves as a Fulbright Faculty Advisor and Fulbright Liaison at the University of Tennessee.
Her research focuses on the population genetics of fungal plant pathogens, population biology, forest health and pathology, and the diversity and conservation of native plants. Originally from Sarajevo, she brings together science, international education, mentorship, and global engagement in her work, with a strong commitment to supporting students and scholars in pursuing international academic opportunities.
