This dynamic portrait documentary, with a diverse style and approach, depicts the continuous work of the band Kultur Shock, with a special emphasis on the fascinating life, music and art of their singer and frontman, Srđan Jevđević.
Srdjan is an artist, theater composer, writer, lyricist, playwright, activist, advisor, and recently he is a new honorary member of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS). In the film, we follow Srđan's spiritual journey in search of her own identity and place in the world, after she left wartime Sarajevo and arrived in Seattle. There he met Krist Novoselic from the group Nirvana and Jella Biafra from the band Dead Kennedys, who encouraged him to continue his music career.
This is where the band Kultur Shock is born, which cultivates a unique musical style, combining Balkan influences with punk, rock and metal, which soon becomes recognizable on the world music scene. The band gathers top musicians from different parts of the world, and to date they have released thirteen albums and held numerous concerts and tours throughout the USA and Europe, performing at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals.
The film explores the question of belonging and the feeling of being torn between life in America, Sarajevo and the relationship with the mother. The story shows the transformations of one person in difficult times, his escape to the end of the world and the demon that follows him.
"Grandpa Guru" is produced by "Točka kulture", directed by Silvio Mirošničenko, while the producer and screenwriter are Sanjin Hasanefendić.
