The web platform Znanjem do zdravlja continues its new podcast dedicated to medicine, disease prevention, early recognition of health problems and the promotion of reliable, expert-based health information. The second episode of the Znanjem do zdravlja podcast opens important questions about high blood pressure, a condition that often does not cause recognizable symptoms, but can seriously endanger health if it is not detected and treated in time.
According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.2 billion people worldwide have high blood pressure, while half of them are not even aware that they have this condition. Data from the Institute for Public Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina also show that cardiovascular diseases have been the leading cause of death among the population of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years, confirming the great importance of prevention, early detection and proper treatment of high blood pressure.
The guest of the second episode is Dr. Vedka Begović, MD, a specialist in internal medicine from California, whose many years of experience in primary healthcare provide valuable insight into the importance of prevention and early diagnosis. The conversation is hosted by Dr. sci. Ljiljana Đukanović, PhD in molecular biology and coordinator of the Znanjem do zdravlja platform, while Dr. Naida Salković from Tuzla brings the perspective of public health and healthcare circumstances in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the discussion, the medical experts pay special attention to distinguishing medical facts from common misconceptions that can lead to delayed diagnosis, improper use of therapy or neglect of symptoms and risk factors.
The Znanjem do zdravlja web platform addresses important topics in the field of medicine, including children’s, women’s and men’s health, disease prevention and the latest information and achievements from the world of medicine. Through expert articles, conversations and medical advice, the platform provides reliable and relevant information aimed at preserving and improving health.
This project was launched at the initiative of members of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences — BHAAAS. The expert team consists of one of the founders and editors, Prof. Dr. Vedka Begović; project coordinator Dr. sci. Ljiljana Đukanović; and expert and technical associates Dr. Naida Salković and Dr. Azra Tupkušić.
The work of the platform is supported by numerous BHAAAS members, as well as experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, who, through their knowledge and experience, help fulfill its mission: improving health literacy and promoting healthy lifestyle habits.
