The program of the III Symposium on Infectious Diseases was focused on several key challenges of modern medicine: antimicrobial resistance, care of critically ill patients and new approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis.
Doctors from Sarajevo, Mostar, Bihać, Konjic, Nova Bila and Jablanica took part. Prominent lecturers were Prof. Rusmir Baljić, Ph.D., Meliha Hadžović Čengić, Ph.D. and Dževad Šačić, Ph.D.
Most of the symposium consisted of presentations of interesting clinical cases from practice, which included the treatment of HIV infection, recurrent sepsis, the problem of vaccination, echinococcosis, and fulminant hepatitis B.
As an important conclusion, the need for the continuation of joint research and educational activities, especially in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, sepsis and improving the treatment of patients with severe infectious diseases, was highlighted. Also, the presented cases emphasized the importance of timely diagnostics, an individualized approach to treatment and the cooperation of several specialties in the care of patients with complex infectious diseases.
The symposium once again confirmed its importance as a place for the exchange of professional experiences, presentation of scientific and professional achievements, and connection of experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and the diaspora.
