A sculpture dedicated to music legend Davorin Popović was revealed in Sarajevo

As part of the Third International Festival "Grad," a sculpture dedicated to Sarajevo music legend and Index frontman Davorin Popović was ceremonially unveiled today in the Collegium Artisticum gallery. The sculpture was created 15 years ago when the author Adis Fejzić applied for a monument to this musical legend in front of Fis. Although this sculpture did not pass the competition, Fejzić realized that it would not be bad to display this sculpture after so long. "The multiplication of monuments to one person should be something positive and indicates all the importance of that personality, but also the importance of preserving that memory, which is important to us. For this reason, I would like us to start living in a time when we will start erecting monuments to someone we honor to work while those people are alive, to be a guide for them to do the right thing. To show them while they are alive how much we value their work and effort," said the sculpture's author. Adis Fejzic Although he did not want to single out anyone in particular, he said that in BiH there is a whole series of people who deserve a monument in any format. "Sarajevo is a specific city, and Davorin is one of the key icons of Sarajevo's pop-rock music school. He is one of the names that served as a role model for big names in music. His value and the value of Index is truly priceless," said Fejzić. Sinan Alimanović, a member of the band Indexi, also attended the unveiling of the sculpture. "The sculpture looks fantastic. I'm glad that they paid attention to a great man like Davorin Popović, who was the only leader of Index, and not only Index; he gathered all the artists around him, like Zdravko Čolić and Jasna, and was the leader of that musical and artistic movement," said Alimanović. Sinan Alimanovic He said that it is essential to remember the great BiH in this way. musical stars because Indexi had a great influence on the region's music scene, and in the seventies, their music was also heard on Radio Luxemburg. Skulptura Davorin Popovic "I can compare that to you as if you were shown on MTV for years, days. Even that is a much worse comparison, as this radio influenced the rock generations of that time. Indexes left a great artistic mark, and the spirit of Davorin Popović was always behind everything who created it all. Davorin left the music so that young musicians can dispose of it and make new arrangements," he said. Ibrahim Spahic The Art Director of the Festival, Ibrahim Spahić, said that Davorin Popović brought a kind of magic to the music scene of the former Yugoslavia with his music and that he left his mark on the entire Balkans. "Today we had the honor and pleasure to hear the sound of Index and from that background to discover the sculpture of Davorin Popović, who was one of the symbols of the Sarajevo music pop rock scene. He left an indelible mark on this area," said Spahić. The third International Festival "Grad" started today and will last for four days. The whole festival, according to the art director, is a synthetic theater with which they want the streets, squares, city, and galleries, but above all people to feel the freedom to speak, think, and listen.
