Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) held its 14th annual meeting this past weekend. Although this year's meeting was held online due to the coronavirus pandemic, that did not prevent a large number of members, sympathizers, interested individuals, representatives of institutions and organizations from all over the world from attending this event.

The meeting was opened by the US ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Eric Nelson, who emphasized the importance of BHAAAS for BiH, especially in the segment of knowledge transfer. Ambassador Nelson praised BHAAAS for proactive approach during the coronavirus pandemic, i.e. the medical division that organized teleconsultations with hospitals throughout BiH and ex YU in order to professionally assist local medical doctors and nurses in the treatment of patients with COVID-19. He also noted the "60 seconds about corona" project, which recorded notable results in informing the public about the corona virus.

The meeting, which lasted almost four hours, was attended by BHAAAS president Dr. Mahira Tanović, vice president Prof. Dr. Ismar Volić, moderator dr. Adnan Begović, Ph.D. Amer Smajkić, Ph.D. Eldin Karaiković, Ph.D. Zdravko Salipur, dr. Semir Tanović, Ph.D. Ognjen Gajić, Ph.D. Ljiljana Đukanović, prof. Ph.D. Samir Avdaković, Ph.D. Adis Fejzić, Lamija Festić and Safija Nizamić. They talked about projects, results and future goals. It was pointed out that, although due to the pandemic, he had to postpone his biggest event "12. Days of BHAAAS in Bosnia and Herzegovina", BHAAAS nevertheless achieved excellent results, and this year is extremely successful for the Academy.

 

Many significant projects have been launched, such as:

  • Knowledge Transfer through the UNDP project "Diaspora for Development",
  • cooperation with the Center for Research and Development and the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies UNSA 
  • support for the BH Futures Foundation project "3-minute Ph.D. thesis"
  • project of our prominent member Adis Fejzić "Key to the City of Sarajevo",
  • numerous seminars, educations and workshops
  • notable professional publications were published,
  • excellent individual results of scientists, doctors, and artists were recorded, and
  • a large number of new members were enrolled.

 

BHAAAS will continue with its projects in the future, so among other things, 25 scientific symposia have been announced for the next year at the "12. Days of BHAAAS in Mostar", many cultural events, but also educational projects for journalists, students, engineers, doctors...
