As part of the 17th Days of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), which will be held from June 4 to 7, 2026 in Sarajevo, a special place is reserved for the medical program, featuring a total of 16 international medical symposia, workshops, and four special events. These will take place at several locations across Sarajevo, including the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, the “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš” General Hospital, ASA Institute, and the Holiday, Courtyard by Marriott, and Mövenpick hotels.
This concept further confirms that the Days of BHAAAS represent a platform for concrete connections between local healthcare institutions and experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina who have built significant careers in some of the most developed healthcare and academic systems in the world.
“One of the most important goals of BHAAAS is to bring the knowledge, experience, and international standards of our members and friends back to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a concrete and applicable way. We are especially pleased that this year’s medical program is being implemented in cooperation with healthcare institutions in Sarajevo, including KCUS, the ‘Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš’ General Hospital, and ASA Institute, because it is precisely through direct encounters between doctors, professors, researchers, and clinical teams that the foundations are created for long-term cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the advancement of medical practice in BiH,” BHAAAS stated.
A program that particularly confirms this mission is the Intensive Care Symposium, which will be held at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. It represents a continuation of the cooperation already initiated between BHAAAS and KCUS in the field of intensive care, focused on the professional development of medical staff, exchange of experience, and the alignment of clinical practice with modern international standards.
The medical program will also continue through the Vascular Medicine Symposium at the “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš” General Hospital, as well as three events to be held at ASA Institute. Among them are the program “Molecular Testing in Oncology: Shaping Diagnosis, Treatment, and Patient Outcomes,” which will address important issues related to the role of molecular testing in modern oncology; the “Thyroid and Parathyroid Ultrasound Diagnostics School,” a workshop dedicated to ultrasound diagnostics of the thyroid and parathyroid glands; and “Obesity in Clinical Practice: From BMI to an Individualized Therapeutic Approach,” an event that will examine the contemporary understanding of obesity as a complex clinical challenge requiring an individualized approach to the patient.
Contemporary approaches to eye health will be the focus of the Ophthalmology Symposium at the Mövenpick Hotel, which will bring together experts in diagnostics, therapy, and clinical practice in ophthalmology. Meanwhile, regenerative medicine in plastic surgery will be presented through the “Regenerative Medicine in Plastic Surgery Symposium” at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, bringing modern insights from the fields of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, regenerative procedures, and innovative therapeutic approaches to Sarajevo.
A special place is also reserved for the Medical Student Symposium, organized in cooperation with BoHeMSA, which will provide medical students and young researchers with the opportunity to present their work, gain new experiences, connect with colleagues and experts from BiH and around the world, and take important first steps in their academic and professional development.
The central venue of this year’s 17th Days of BHAAAS, from June 4 to 7, will be Hotel Holiday, where numerous scientific, professional, and interdisciplinary programs will be held, including a significant part of the medical program. The program will cover the fields of infectious diseases, radiology, pulmonology, hepatology, mental health of children and adolescents, neurosurgery, neurology, dermatovenereology, cardiovascular medicine, orthopedics and traumatology, maxillofacial surgery, and other important medical topics.
Through this year’s medical symposia, workshops, and special events, Sarajevo will, during the 17th Days of BHAAAS, become a meeting place for doctors, researchers, professors, young professionals, and healthcare institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and the world. The program confirms that BHAAAS continues to build bridges through which international knowledge is transformed into concrete support for the local medical community, with the aim of strengthening professional standards and developing the healthcare system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
