On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the BHAAAS Annual Meeting was held at The Heathman Hotel in Kirkland, WA. In addition to BHAAAS members, many friends and guests were present, such as the first Ambassador for BiH to the UN and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Mr. Muhamed Šaćirbey.
The agenda began with a session that included a presentation by the Bosnian Ambassador to the USA, Sven Alkalaj, via video, followed by an address by the former president of BHAAAS, Eldina Vajzović Nizamić MD, who handed over the presidential medallion to the new president, Adnan Begović MD. expressing confidence that he will lead the organization with dedication and selflessness.
Adnan Begović gave a personal and inspiring speech, expressing his deep commitment to the mission that BHAAAS represents.
Esad Boskailo MD, former president, gave a presentation on the topic of continuity of BHAAAS value. With his presentation, he reminded everyone present of the values of BHAAAS, emphasizing the importance of togetherness and working to improve professional ties. At the end of this session, new members of the organization were introduced.
The second session started with presentations by BHAAAS divisions and program chairs, during which they presented their reports. Zlatan Akšamija PhD gave a report on Technical and Natural Sciences, while Adnan Begović MD spoke on Medicine and Health, including a presentation of the Web Medical Archives project by Amina Smajlović MD. Slobodan Radosavljević gave a report on the Humanities and Social Sciences and Arts, while Tijana Tufek-Memišević PhD spoke about the Sustainable Development Program, and Ljiljana Đukanović PhD about the Student Program.
The third session was dedicated to invited speakers. The first speaker, Nermina Avdic, Director of Technical Engineering Services from The Pokemon Company International, gave a presentation on teamwork. One of the particularly interesting points of the program was the presentation by Amila Buturović PhD, a professor at York University, entitled "Paths of esotericism through Ottoman Bosnia: talismans and records in the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina." This topic held the attention of all present, and the focus was placed on the importance of pre-Ottoman and Ottoman records kept in the depot of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her presentation emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and highlighted the interest of world experts in these artifacts.
Vedad Mahmuljin, an engineer from Boeing, spoke about the development processes of the modern jet-liner, followed by a final question-and-answer segment.
At the end of the first day, a conference dinner was held, which allowed members and guests to informally connect and share experiences. On Sunday, October 13, 2024, a joint sightseeing tour of the city of Seattle was organized.
Despite the time differences, many members followed the assembly virtually from different parts of the world and from BiH, which further confirms the importance and unity within BHAAAS. This event was more than just a formal meeting; it was a moment for reflection, inspiration and connecting members who share common goals and values.
