A great project by an International member of BHAAAS, Ms. Mary Sherhart

I am writing to inform you about a great project by an International member of BHAAAS, Ms. Mary Sherhart, and to provide you with information how you can contribute to and support this project. Ms. Sherhart is the president of Sevdah North America (see http://sevdahnorthamerica.org) - a non-profit, all volunteer educational organization that focuses on preservation and promotion of sevdah in North America. The Evening of Sevdah (see http://eveningofsevdah.com), now in its sixth year, is one of Mary’s many sevdah-related projects. The Evening of Sevdah is an annual event celebrating and showcasing sevdah, and is held in Seattle, Washington. This year’s Evening of Sevdah will be held on Saturday, November 24th at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, and will feature a special guest from Bosnia and Herzegovina - Alma Subasic. In addition to participating in the Evening of Sevdah event in Seattle, Ms. Sherhart has arranged for miss Subasic to also perform in Detroit, Michigan on December 1st, and in Atlanta, Georgia on December 8th. Alma Subasic (see http://almasubasic.com) is a child star and a singing prodigy well-known throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although she is only eighteen years old, Alma already has a distinguished career and experience performing in the finest venues and with some of the best-known singers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and former Yugoslavia. Mary Sherhart was moved to create Alma’s first tour as a way of ‘paying back’ the many people who helped her over her life. Mary saw in Alma a rare talent, a girl with excellent morals from a wonderful family and wanted to give Alma this experience. Currently, Ms. Sherhart is personally paying for all expenses in connection with Alma’s and her mother’s international and domestic travel, as well as sending them to Disneyland for four nights between the Seattle and Detroit concerts. Some of the expenses associated with Alma’s tour include cost of international and domestic flights, fees associated with obtaining a visiting performer visa, artistic fees, as well as the above-mentioned trip to Disneyland. In addition to the expenses associated with Alma’s travels and performances, Mary has donated countless hours with respect to arranging Alma’s tour as well as organizing the Evening of Sevdah event.
