As part of the 16th Days of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), the first professional symposium on maxillofacial surgery and head and neck surgery was held in Sarajevo, marking a significant expansion of the conference’s multidisciplinary scope and opening a new platform for broader exchange of expertise and experiences in this important medical field.
This symposium represents a major step forward, particularly for young specialists and physicians in the process of professional development. The initiative for its organization was launched by two young professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Harisa Hibić Kaknjašević, medical doctor from Zenica, and Dr. Amer Kubat, doctor of dental medicine — inspired by their participation in the European Congress of Maxillofacial Surgeons in Rome and driven by a sincere wish to bring a similar professional format to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Special thanks go to *Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dino Dizdarević for his invaluable support and mentorship, which was key to the successful realization of this event.
The symposium was greatly enriched by the presence of esteemed guests from Serbia, including Prof. Dr. Srboljub Stošić and a group of residents from the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, as well as Dr. Aleksandar Oroz from Zemun Clinical Hospital Center, whose expertise and insights contributed to meaningful discussions and professional exchange.
We also extend our gratitude to Dr. Hasan Altumbabić from ASA Hospital, colleagues from the Croatian Hospital “Dr. fra Mato Nikolić” in Nova Bila, and attendees from Mostar and Bihać, whose participation further strengthened the spirit of collaboration and mutual support.
The program was further enhanced by presentations from residents of KCUS Sarajevo, with the strong support of their department head, Prof. Dr. Dervišević, whose presence gave additional recognition and legitimacy to this valuable initiative.
Once again, the Days of BHAAAS confirm their status as the most significant multidisciplinary scientific event in the region, bringing together experts from the diaspora and Bosnia and Herzegovina to foster progress in science, medicine, innovation, and social development. By introducing new thematic symposia such as this one, BHAAAS not only keeps pace with global trends — it actively shapes them, providing young professionals with space to grow, learn, and inspire.
