Admir Mašić, a chemist and scientist originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been promoted to the position of full professor at the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States of America.
Admir is a member of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences - BHAAAS and the International Academy of Sciences and Arts in BiH - IANUBIH, and he is the winner of this year's WITec Paper award.
He revealed the secret of the durability of Roman concrete to collaborators from Harvard University and laboratories in Italy and Switzerland. Exceptional findings of prof. The story of Mašić and his team published in the journal Science Advances about a significant discovery was reported by numerous world media. Studying ancient writings and charters, he discovered a chemical formula and patented modern, self-healing concrete, the composition of which allows building and bridge structures to last for thousands of years.
Mašić was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and during the war in 1992. escaped to Croatia, where he attended technical high school and excelled in the field of chemistry. With the support of generous sponsors, he continued his higher education at the University of Turin.
While studying in Turin, he co-founded the company Adamantio srl, which deals with the preservation of ancient cultural heritage. Mašić received his doctorate in physical chemistry at the University of Turin and became an associate professor at MIT.
At MIT, Mašić is a principal investigator in the Laboratory for Multiscale Characterization and Design of Materials. His research focuses on chemomechanics, higher-level characterization of biological materials inspired by antiquity, and the design of new, more durable and sustainable building materials.
Namit was one of the founding faculty members for the Refugee ACTion Hub (ReACT), which has three key goals: community engagement within MIT and beyond, developing a certification system for displaced students, and connecting with the wider public.
Admir Mašić gave a lecture and a Q&A session at the last BHAAAS Days conference. We invite you not to miss the interesting lecturers and topics at the 15th BHAAAS Days in Sarajevo from June 20 to 23.
