BHAAAS in cooperation with WHO and MCMG helps doctors in BiH and ex Yu

A teleconsultation program launched with hospitals in BiH and ex-YU BHAAAS experts for intensive medicine is actively involved in the fight against COVID-19. Sarajevo, 31.3.2020. Expert teams composed of experienced intensive care medicine specialists of the Bosnian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) are actively involved in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the members of BHAAAS, as part of their activities, started the implementation of teleconsultation with hospitals in BiH and ex-YU to help with their advice to local doctors and medical personnel who treat patients with COVID-19. This program, which takes place under the auspices of the office of the World Health Organization (WHO) from Sarajevo and the Mayo Clinic METRIC group, aims to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of intensive care medicine to protect critically ill patients, nurses, technicians, and doctors in the difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is based on the CERTAIN Workshop adapted to the current situation according to the principle of "LESS IS MORE" in intensive care to prevent iatrogenic complications and protect medical staff and patients. In addition to access to rational and practical treatment guidelines recommended by international organizations (SCCM/ESICM), the program also consists of an exchange of experience and knowledge between colleagues in the region and the USA. "As a doctor, first of all, and then as the President of BHAAAS, I appeal to all my colleagues to get involved in this action in as many numbers as possible and thus help to stop the pandemic as soon as possible and to minimize the consequences as effectively as possible,"  said Dr. Mahira Tanović. The tele-education and discussion are streamed live on the YouTube channel, and questions can be asked via the WHO ICU Support chat group. The first show was released on March 24, 2020., while other shows will be broadcast on YouTube on March 31, 2020, year.
