Professor Milomir Ninković, one of the best plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the world, resides in Foča, where, in the presence of younger colleagues from the University Hospital of Foče, UC Sarajevo, KC Tuzla, KB Zenica, and KC Vojvodina, he performed three rare operations.
The director of the Clinic for Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery and the Burn Center of the Bogenhausen Hospital in Munich operated on two children and one adult.
A congenital anomaly of the thumb was eliminated in a three-year-old child, reconstruction of the fingers after birth trauma was performed in a 12-year-old boy, and reconstruction of the tips of the fingers in a patient who suffered an injury. These are young patients, and it is very important to do it on time so that they have enough time to master that function that they didn't even have and that they are trying to get now, through physical therapy and operative procedures," said Dr. Ninković in breaks between operations.
Doctor Erić i Ninković Professor Milomir Ninković is a student from Sarajevo, and in world plastic surgery he is known for introducing a series of procedures named after him, among other things, he performed the first transplant of forearms and hands from a dead donor, the first reconstruction of the muscle layer of the bladder with a muscle taken from the back, and reconstruction of the lip with the help of a free flap from the thigh. With his annual visits to Foča, he tries to pass on part of his rich experience to younger people, perform rare procedures, and demonstrate new techniques. We may have always underestimated ourselves a little. We probably still do it today, so we think that some kind of exclusive surgery is being done in the world. I think that our work is very high-quality, except that there is a problem with support. You don't have support in hospitals or society; probably there isn't any big political support for young people to succeed here. All the young people who leave these areas of ours, and I'm talking about the entire Balkans, come out and achieve great success because they are stimulated and have support. That is the main problem here because we have talented, hard-working, smart, and creative people who, even under these conditions, perform extraordinary surgery. The quality of surgery with the support we receive here is extraordinary, pointed out Dr. Ninkovic. Reconstructive surgery, especially of the extremities, achieved great success in Foča thanks to Dr. Dražan Erić, one of Ninković's students. We recently performed a reconstruction of the entire chest wall in the case of a tumor. We performed hand and finger plantations, which are the most difficult operations in this area, and we are proud of that, says Dr. Eric. Mufid Burgić, a specialist in plastic surgery from UKC Tuzla, says that this was a unique opportunity for surgeons from the region to attend the operations of a world expert in this field. In October last year, I had the opportunity to attend a symposium on microvascular surgery organized by a professor in Munich. One of my colleagues is with me today, so this is a great experience that we will be able to apply during the operation of our patients in Tuzla," added Burgić. In the afternoon, a symposium was dedicated to Dr. Boris Starović, the founder of plastic and reconstructive surgery in this city and one of the creators of modern plastic surgery in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
