Applied doctoral dissertation as a basis for professional institutional cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland on the urban transformation of Sarajevo

Professional and scientific work after graduate studies at UNSA After graduate studies at the University of Sarajevo, which ended in 2008 with the award of the University Charter, Haris Pipláš earned a master's degree at the Technical University of Berlin as a DAAD scholar and a doctorate at the best-ranked university in continental Europe - ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) at the Department of Architecture. In addition to his activities in practice, he was a researcher at the University of Politecnico di Milano and worked on the development of the Urban Simulation Game platform and the ISTP Institute at ETH. He was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Geneva and the Technical University of Stuttgart. He is currently co-director of the Integrated Urban Solutions Global sector of Drees&Sommer, one of the leading European companies for interdisciplinary development, planning, and implementation of innovative projects in the fields of digital spatial planning, smart architecture, and sustainable urbanism. Dr. Haris Piplaš is the co-author of projects such as Smart&Inclusive Luzern, Urban Innovation Strategy for Jakarta, Concept of Ecological Urbanism for Qingdao, Climate Adaptation Plan for Mannheim, and others. He was the curator of the "Sarajevo Now" pavilion at the 15th Architecture Biennale in Venice, as well as a keynote speaker at numerous international, regional, and domestic conferences. He is also a member of IFLA and ISOCARP (International Society of Landscape Architects and City and Regional Planners) and SIA (Swiss Chamber of Architecture and Engineering), former president of the Young Leader Committee of the Urban Land Institute, corresponding member of BHAAAS, regional scoping expert IPBES, award nominator Aga Khan for architecture, member of the jury of the New European Bauhaus award, and the Advisory Committee for the construction of culture of the European Forum Alpbach and CANactions School of Urban Studies Kyiv, etc. He collaborated as a senior expert for GIZ and UN-Habitat. The Urban Toolbox and City Lab approach was the basis for a doctoral dissertation devoted to the urban transformations of Sarajevo in the context of global trends. Urban Transformation of Sarajevo: New Visions for the Campus and the Central Part of Sarajevo In addition to the theoretical base, the applied part of the dissertation by Dr. Piplaša is dedicated to transferring knowledge into practice through the "Urban Transformation Project Reactivate Sarajevo," which initiated the institutional cooperation of ETH Zurich, the University of Sarajevo, SECO (Swiss State Secretariat for the Economy), Matica BiH, the City of Zurich, and the City and Canton of Sarajevo as a project institutional a bridge between countries.
