Gordan Srkalović, M.D., Ph.D., former president of BHAAAS and current member of the Advisory Council of BHAAAS, and member of ANUBiH, is the recipient of the prestigious international award Castleman Warrior – Researcher of the Year, awarded by the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network. This award is given to scientists who have made an outstanding contribution to the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of Castleman's disease - a rare and complex disorder of the immune system.

As the former president of BHAAAS, Dr. Srkalović made a significant contribution to the development of the organization, strengthening its international ties and promoting scientific excellence within the Bosnian academic and professional diaspora. Through the Advisory Council of BHAAAS, in which former presidents remain actively involved, Dr. Srkalović still contributes to preserving the value, continuity and strategic direction of the organization.

Internationally recognized doctor and researcher
dr. Srkalović is currently the medical director of the UM Health-Sparrow Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, where he also heads the department for clinical trials. His career has been marked by a strong synergy of clinical medicine and translational research, with a special focus on the development of innovative therapeutic approaches for patients in whom standard forms of treatment do not provide satisfactory results.
As director of clinical studies, he participated in numerous national and international clinical trials, collaborating with leading academic institutions and research centers around the world. His work provided patients with early access to modern therapies and significantly improved clinical practice in the field of rare diseases.
A leader in Castleman's disease research
A special place in his career is occupied by the research of Castleman's disease. Thanks to decades of dedicated work, Dr. Srkalović is today considered one of the world's leading authorities in this field. His contribution includes scientific research, clinical studies, education of healthcare workers and continuous support for patients.
Castleman's disease is a rare but serious disease that leads to immune system disorders, enlarged lymph nodes and possible organ damage. It can appear in different forms - from localized to systemic, potentially life-threatening. In the United States, approximately 4,300–5,200 new patients are diagnosed annually.
