Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HARTS): International recognition for BHAAAS member Svjetlana Bukvich and her composition Unraveling the Linear

Composer, producer, and multimedia artist Svjetlana Bukvich, a member of BHAAAS and a distinguished representative of contemporary art music, is once again in the international spotlight thanks to her composition Unraveling the Linear, featured on the album Resonant Worlds by the Sylvan Winds ensemble (Albany Records). The album has attracted the attention of music critics worldwide, including the prestigious Gramophone UK, which highlighted the release for its artistic complexity and innovative sound.

Born in Sarajevo and now based in New York, Svjetlana Bukvich has built a successful international career as a composer, pianist, and professor. Her work is characterized by a unique fusion of classical, electronic, and experimental music, often combined with visual arts and new technologies. Her compositions have been performed at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as well as in collaboration with the Sarajevo Philharmonic and numerous international ensembles.

She completed her education at the Academy of Music of the University of Sarajevo, where she graduated in composition and musicology, and later in the United States, where she earned a master’s degree in Integrated Electronic Arts. Throughout her career, she has served as a lecturer at institutions such as New York University and Pratt Institute, and currently works as a professor at the City University of New York.

Her connection with BHAAAS is reflected through her active membership and contributions to the development of the Academy’s artistic programs. Bukvich is engaged within the HARTS department (Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences), where she contributes to strengthening international artistic collaboration and promoting Bosnian and Herzegovinian artists on the global stage. She has also participated in projects implemented through cooperation between BHAAAS and cultural institutions in Sarajevo, including concerts and artistic programs that connect the diaspora with the local cultural scene.

As an artist who continuously builds bridges between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the international art scene, Svjetlana Bukvich demonstrates through her work the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the arts, as well as the role of BHAAAS as a platform that brings together leading professionals from the diaspora with the goal of knowledge exchange and strengthening the cultural and scientific landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The latest recognition for her composition Unraveling the Linear further confirms her status as one of the most significant contemporary composers of Bosnian and Herzegovinian origin on the international scene, as well as the importance of the continued engagement of BHAAAS members in global artistic and scientific developments.
