We wish to remember Dr. Faruk Turkić, an outstanding pathologist and physician who passed away on September 10, 2025. Dr. Turkić completed his specialization in Novi Sad and worked as a pathologist for more than 50 years, serving the longest as Head of the Department of Pathology at Zenica Cantonal Hospital until his retirement, after which he continued his professional career and passion for pathology at Tešanj General Hospital.
In addition to his work as a pathologist, Dr. Turkić served as a court expert and autopsy physician, performing more than 8,000 forensic-medical and pathological autopsies. He made a particularly significant contribution during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina by working on posthumous exhumations and the wartime and post-war identification of murdered victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Throughout his professional life, Dr. Turkić remained consistently dedicated to pathology and to patients, without interruptions in his work or involvement in paramedical engagements, which made him a unique physician in this region and reflected his deeply rooted passion for medicine and science.
He was a devoted father of two daughters and a loving husband, as well as a person relied upon by the community and the entire city of Zenica, where he is remembered as a physician whose precise, prompt, and unequivocal diagnoses prolonged or saved tens of thousands of lives.
His daughter, Majda Turkić, a long-standing member of BHAAAS, continues his mission of dedication to humanism, work, and contribution to the community through culture and the arts.
