President of BHAAAS Dr. Esad Boškailo: If nationalism and fascism led us to this situation, then the solution lies in running away from those most dangerous phenomena in modern society. Every October since 2007, when it was founded, and now here, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Science and Art (BHAAAS) holds one of its two regular annual meetings in one of the American states, while the other, the native one, takes place somehow from spring, in the native country and always in a different city. The last, sixth BHAAS meetings in the homeland were held in April in Bihać, and during the manifestation, which was organized in cooperation with the Cantonal Hospital "Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić" and the University of Bihac, experts from the USA and the region presented the latest experiences and knowledge from all medical fields. On the other hand, in America, the eighth meeting of the association that gathers established Bosnian-Herzegovinian scientists and artists who live and work in the USA and Canada and a non-political and non-profit organization that works to improve and develop the science and art of the Bosnian diaspora and connect and exchange knowledge with experts in the homeland was held a few days ago in Phoenix, in the American state of Arizona. By tradition and its normative acts, during the two-day work, among other things, new leadership was elected, and the honor and obligation to represent and lead BHAAAS in the next 12 months went to Dr. Esad Boskail, who, in an interview for Kliker.info, presents the conclusions of the meeting in Arizona. "They discussed new projects, preparations for the meeting of the Academy in Brčko in April 2015, an even better organization within BHAAAS, and the traditional meeting with new members were held. In addition, plans related to the strengthening of the Young Scientists section led by Dr. Lejla Hadžikadić and Prof. . Ph.D. Nirvana Pistoljevic. The fact that recently the Council of Ministers of BiH recognized the values of this organization and gives us support, but all this is not even close to the desired level, which is why we must strengthen cooperation with them and with universities and other institutions of BiH that deal with science and art. It is important to emphasize here that we are not asking for any material help or reward. We are only asking for support and conditions for easier action in all areas of our homeland," emphasizes the new president of BHAAAS, Dr. Esad Boskailo. According to his words, due attention was also given this year to organizations and individuals who selflessly help the work of the Academy and who are not from our country. "BHAAAS awarded this year's award for successful work to conductor Diane Wittry for the cooperation achieved between American musicians and the Sarajevo Philharmonic. We did not forget the psychologist, Dr. Dawn Noggle, otherwise an honorary member of the Academy because of her selfless work with the Bosnian community in Phoenix. What kind of person she is, will be clear if I quote only part of her speech that I recorded during the address to the members of the academy. "I listened to what was said today, and if your goal is to build a future for a successful Bosnia for Bosnians both in Bosnia and in the diaspora, then the seeds of that future are right in this room. Passion, talent, and vision. It is my privilege and responsibility to be a part of it. As you can see, you are Kismet for me. Sarajevo and Bosnia globally stand at the crossroads of deep-minded thinking through world religions and a rich history of meeting East and West. Before me, a Bosnian artist here said: "It is not important where we come from, but who we have decided to be." I would say that where we come from contributes richly to our spirit, heart, and intellect. You have a centuries-old culture of pluralism, tolerance, and creativity that stems from such perspectives," said Professor Noggle, among other things. To quote Rumi: "Let beauty be what we do. There are a hundred ways to kneel and kiss the earth." President Boškailo also points out the fact that the Academy welcomes new members into its ranks every year, which proves that it is not an elitist but an open and transparent organization that strictly respects established standards and propositions. "This year, newly admitted member Dr. Naim Logic, Ph.D. Zdravko Shalipur, and honorary member Dr. . Keith Doubt. Prof. Dr. Zdravko Shalipur, who works for the renowned company Exponent, Failure Analysis Associates, Inc., gave a presentation on scientific research into the causes of various accidents. Namely, Dr. Shalipur and colleagues reconstruct accidents (traffic, industrial, sports, etc.) and biomechanical experts look for the cause of human injuries. Naim Logic is a doctor of electrical engineering. He worked at ETF—Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo, ASU—Arizona State University, and currently works at Elektroprivreda Arizona (SRP) in Phoenix, where he leads the Sinkrofazor team. Synchrophasors are a new, revolutionary technology that enables detailed monitoring of power system dynamics. It should be emphasized that with the increasing share of renewable energy sources, such as wind and sun, the dynamics of the system change significantly, which emphasizes the growing importance of synchrophasor technology. However, apart from the science, Dr. Logić also has another hobby: hiking. His experience is that these two activities—physical activity in nature and mountains and intellectual work in science and at the workplace—complement each other. The message of his presentation is that with an optimal balance of these activities, the maximum can be achieved in both fields: a doctorate in science and profession, and climbing the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest, 8,850 meters high, which Naim managed two years ago. Dr. Keith Doubt, professor of sociology from Wittenberg University Springfield, presented his new book, "Through the Window: Kinship and Elopement in Bosnia-Herzegovina." Phoenix, Sanela Kisić, a new member of BHAAAS, and a fine artist of Bosnian origin, held a solo exhibition. She selflessly helps many internationally recognized humanitarian organizations. And this time Sanela gladly responded and promised to donate 50% of her fee from the pictures to BHAAAS.” When asked what he will personally try to do as president during his one-year mandate, Dr. Boskailo emphasizes that BHAAAS is a scientific association that respects and values continuity. "The previous president, Dr. Gordan Srkalović, has done a lot. It's just up to me to continue, with new ideas and new projects. Preparations for Academy Days in Brčko have already begun. We estimate that we will have over 300 lectures from various fields of science, and it will probably be the largest learning gathering in Bosnia and Herzegovina next year. I will try to strengthen cooperation with all universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and other institutions that work for the benefit of every human being, promises Boškailo, and returns to this year's meetings in Arizona with a request that we highlight the contribution of the owner and staff of the "Café Sarajevo" restaurant in Phoenix. and Nirvana Pištoljević and his band members, who made an effort to make the members of the academy, after hard work, and our many compatriots living in Phoenix, feel as if they were somewhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also responded to certain criticisms that the Academy, in its previous work, avoided dealing with sensitive issues related to the organization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e., the constitutional anomalies from Dayton. " The Academy will not deal with daily political events, but due to the importance of preserving the basic principles of freedom and democracy, BHAAAS has formed a commission that will react in case of violation of civil rights in our country. We will not remain neutral because, as Desmond Tutu, a human rights activist from South Africa, says, "If you are neutral when injustice is done, you have chosen the side of the oppressor," points out Dr. Boskailo. In the end, the president of BHAAAS commented on the results of the last elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina: "In my opinion, the results of the recent elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina are not at all encouraging. The reasons for such results are probably multiple, and serious analyses are needed to find out why the voting body in Bosnia and Herzegovina voted this way. I am afraid that the citizens of BiH are deep in a dangerous psychological state that we in psychiatry call "learned helplessness" or "learned helplessness." Learned helplessness causes severe depression in people and is explained as a mental state in which a person has learned to endure great difficulties, and so he becomes powerless to get out of those difficulties despite the opportunity presented. In simple language, "man does not know better." He simply chooses to suffer because he thinks he has lost control over the given situation. How else to explain voting again for the same parties, which brought them into this difficult situation? If nationalism and fascism brought us to this situation, then the solution is to escape from those most dangerous phenomena in modern society. I believe that the hope and solution lie in the association of healthy civil parties that will fight for every inhabitant of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We all have an obligation and the duty to work to preserve freedom and rights for everyone to preserve hope for a better future," emphasizes Boskailo and recalls his earlier statements that he would never agree to live in a country where others would have fewer rights than him. Dr. Eso Boškailo is a born and true Počitelac resident, currently with an American residential address. He lives and works in Phoenix, where he is currently the deputy director for specialization at the largest psychiatric hospital in the city and an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Arizona. In addition, among other things, he is engaged in writing and is the co-author of the well-known book "Wounded I Am More Awake: Finding Meaning after Terror, published by the prestigious Vanderbilt University.
