Within the program of the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, “Knowledge Transfer of Diaspora Experts to Institutions and Public Bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” implemented in cooperation with the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), Dr. Andi Arnautović—a BHAAAS member and one of its founders, a family medicine specialist, and Medical Director at NorthShore Health Centers(Indiana, USA)—visited the Faculty of Health Studies, University of Sarajevo from March 30 to April 3, 2026.
During his engagement, Dr. Arnautović delivered a series of lectures to students and faculty members. The lectures covered the topics “Immunization in the United States – recommendations and vaccination schedules by age group” and “Healthcare Systems – Two Models: Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. the United States,” with a particular focus on the organization of primary care centers in the U.S. (Federally Qualified Health Centers – FQHC).

In addition to the lectures, expert discussions and exchanges with faculty members were organized, focusing on differences in the education of healthcare professionals, key public health challenges, and opportunities to adapt and apply best practices from the United States within the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meetings were also held with the Faculty’s leadership to explore potential directions for future cooperation and the development of joint initiatives between the Faculty of Health Studies and diaspora experts.

Dr. Andi Arnautović’s professional career reflects extensive experience in both Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States. He began his career working under wartime conditions as an emergency physician in Sarajevo, after which he continued his academic and research work at U.S. universities.
