"Knowledge is a Sharable Wealth" is the name of the eighth BHAAAS Days international conference, which this year is being held until May 29 in Neum. The opening ceremony of the 8th Days of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences began this morning at the Sunce Hotel in Neum, where also found N1.
Reporter Đenana Kaminić spoke with Azra Terzić, president of BHAAAS, who pointed out that this is a large scientific gathering that will host 1,000 experts coming from various parts of the world, as well as the region. At the five-day conference, they will convey their knowledge, experiences, and opinions—especially from the field of medicine. She pointed out that this is already a traditional manifestation, and this year there will be the most lecturers from the field of medicine so far, a total of 260. By the way, this conference takes place in two countries, the USA and BiH, and it is quite demanding to organize the arrival of a large number of participants. "We are starting preparations in the USA, where we meet once a year to enrich ourselves and the members. At the American conference, we agreed on the organization and work of the conference that will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina," says Terzić. It will be taught in 14 symposia, and guest lecturers come from the USA, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Serbia, Sweden, Great Britain, Malta, Norway, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Until now, the conferences were held exclusively in cities with universities; two were held in Sarajevo and one each in Zenica, Tuzla, Bihac, Mostar, and Brčko. "This year we made a somewhat more commercial type of conference; the so-called call for applications for presentations was introduced. We opened up widely to the BiH public and organized commissions that reviewed the applications and decided who would present in the following days. Everything we do, we do to maintain bridges with BiH. We acquired knowledge and training in the USA, which is the leading country in the world when it comes to medical branches," adds Terzić. Finally, she explained that the capacity of the academy is 300 members who work for the academy—voluntarily—and that each meeting is financed precisely by members who live in the USA but contribute to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
