Adnan Begović, a doctor specializing in pulmonary diseases and intensive care who works at a clinic in San Diego, spoke to N1 about the situation with the Coronavirus.
Speaking about the high number of positive people for the Coronavirus in the United States of America, Begović said that we need to look at the bigger picture. "The fact that the population of America is very large; it is an entire continent. It does not mean that the situation in certain areas, such as New York, Washington State, Louisiana, Florida, and the northern part of California, are red zones with a lot of patients," he clarified. He also described his feelings about the Coronavirus, which was also his message to the viewers: "With more knowledge and understanding of this disease, it is much easier to deal with it. Today, after a month and a half of information explosion, I feel much more comfortable with the situation. "I don't have any particular fear or discomfort, but that doesn't mean that no measures should be taken. I don't think there should be a big fuss about the whole disease." As a guest in Novi Dan, he said that the Americans are following the measures. "In the initial phase, there was hesitation as to how to enter the process of stopping the spread of the disease. America is a country where personal and private life is highly respected; it is more difficult to implement measures. The situation is very stable; people comply with the measures. I am satisfied, at least here, where I am," he explained. Begović explained the difference between the seasonal flu and the Coronavirus. "If you imagine that the number of hospitalized patients from the flu is about one percent, while it is about 12 percent for the Coronavirus. That says enough that you have more than ten times the need for hospitalization. Another parameter is mortality; with the flu, it is about 0.1 percent, while with the Coronavirus, the mortality is from 1.5 to 2.5 percent. This means that the mortality rate is 15 to 20 percent higher. With the flu, one patient infects 1.5 patients, and the number increases to three, he explained. He also spoke about the teleconsultation project with hospitals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the countries of the former Yugoslavia to help local doctors and medical staff with advice. "That project is fantastic. There are currently almost 1,400 people on that platform. Once a week we have direct calls from colleagues in the form of consultations. Incredibly good and positive energy," said Adnan Begović in a conversation with Sanela Dujković. Take a look at the VIDEO (http://ba.n1info.com/)
