Mahira Tanović Leads NAPREH Annual Assembly in Sarajevo: Focus on Professional Standards and International Collaboration

The National Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeons in Bosnia and Herzegovina (NAPREH) will hold its Annual Assembly and working meeting on Friday, June 5, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM at the Holiday Hotel in Sarajevo. The event will gather Association members, experts in plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery, as well as partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora.

This year’s meeting will focus on defining the Association’s strategic direction under the leadership of its newly appointed management team, headed by Mahira Tanović — a distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in New York, and a member and former president of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Tanović brings more than two decades of professional experience in the United States, where she currently serves as Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Hofstra University School of Medicine and runs a private practice on Park Avenue in New York City.

The meeting in Sarajevo represents an important step toward reactivating the Association’s activities and strengthening the professional network of plastic and reconstructive surgeons in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora. Key topics will include presenting the vision of the new leadership, defining future operational guidelines, professional networking, exchange of experiences, and improving patient safety. The symposium will be held at the Sarajevo Marriott Hotel.

“Complications are an integral part of medicine, and no one is immune to them. That is precisely why it is important for physicians to have a platform where they can quickly exchange advice, opinions, or experiences,” Dr. Tanović previously stated when speaking about the importance of professional collaboration within the field.

This year’s gathering is further strengthened by the continued collaboration between NAPREH and Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an organization that has for years connected experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora through scientific conferences, educational initiatives, and professional projects.

As part of the 17th Days of Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences, taking place from June 4–7, 2026, in Sarajevo, this year’s Symposium on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is also planned, alongside the Symposium on Regenerative and Functional Medicine. The focus will be on contemporary therapeutic approaches, regenerative medicine, and personalized treatment based on patients’ genetic and biological profiles.

The previous Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Symposium held during the Days of BHAAAS attracted significant interest from the professional community, bringing together renowned international experts and local specialists, including pioneers of modern reconstructive techniques and live surgical demonstrations.

The NAPREH Annual Assembly in Sarajevo further confirms the importance of connecting local and international experts and advancing professional standards in the field of plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
