Meeting between BHAAAS Representatives and the Sarajevo Canton Office for Diaspora: New Steps in Strengthening Cooperation and Connecting with the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Diaspora

A meeting was held at the office of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), located in the University of Sarajevo Campus, between representatives of BHAAAS and the Sarajevo Canton Government’s Office for Diaspora. The main topic of discussion was the enhancement of cooperation and institutional support for programs that connect the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora with academic, scientific, and professional institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Adnan Begović, the current President of BHAAAS, who emphasized the importance of lasting partnerships between institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and experts from the diaspora, noting that “such meetings confirm the legitimacy and continuity of BHAAAS as an organization that has, for nearly two decades, brought together the knowledge, experience, and energy of professionals from around the world with their homeland.”

“BHAAAS serves as a bridge between the diaspora and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it also stands as proof that knowledge and science know no borders. Institutional support for our projects and programs is essential for further growth and sustainability,” added Prof. Begović.

On behalf of the Sarajevo Canton Government, the meeting was attended by Emir Ibrahimagić, Head of the Office for Diaspora, who stated that “BHAAAS represents one of the most significant organizations of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora.”

“We recognize the Days of BHAAAS as the largest annual diaspora event in the Sarajevo Canton, and we see cooperation with BHAAAS as a strategic direction for strengthening scientific and professional ties with our people across the world,” said Ibrahimagić.

During the meeting, BHAAAS representatives presented the guests with the monograph “BHAAAS 2007–2020”, a publication that documents the organization’s impressive tradition and its continuous contribution to the development of science, education, arts, and society in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In an open and constructive atmosphere, concrete steps for future collaboration were agreed upon, including support for knowledge-transfer projects, joint programs with universities, and strengthening the visibility of achievements by Bosnian professionals in the diaspora.

The meeting concluded in a spirit of shared enthusiasm and confidence that connection, knowledge exchange, and mutual support are key to the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) was founded in 2007 with the mission of promoting science, education, innovation, and professional excellence among experts of Bosnian origin around the world. The organization brings together over 400 members, including university professors, scientists, physicians, engineers, artists, and entrepreneurs, who contribute to the growth of the global academic and scientific community while strengthening ties with their homeland.

Through activities such as the Days of BHAAAS, the Academy builds a bridge between domestic institutions and the diaspora, fosters international cooperation, and enables the exchange of knowledge and experience that directly supports the advancement of science, technology, and society in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
