The Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) held its annual meeting, which was attended by a large number of members, prominent scientists, professors, artists, and other professionals in various fields who live and work around the world. The new president, board members, and department heads were introduced at the meeting. Thus, the current president, Prof. Ismar Volić, was succeeded by a distinguished doctor from the USA, Amer Smajkić. “I am honored to assume the presidency of BHAAAS for the period from 2022 to 2023. I appreciate the trust that the Board of Directors has placed in me to lead this very important organization in the coming year,” said the new BHAAAS president, Dr. Amer Smajkić, who thanked the current president, Prof. Ismar Volić, for the exceptional results that BHAAAS achieved during his term. “Professor Volić has set the bar very high in his presidency, and, frankly, it will be very challenging to follow this trend. However, I am sure that together with our great colleagues, with dedication, enthusiasm, and generosity, we will continue to improve the work of BHAAAS,” said Dr. Smajkić and added that he is looking forward to teamwork with great people. “Last year was challenging but also incredibly successful. We began the reorganization process required by our growth and expansion of the scope of activities. The BHAAAS Days in Sarajevo was an example of our importance and potential, and I think that during the past year, we have organizationally set BHAAAS at a level that will enable the continuation of our activities at a high level. I cannot imagine a better person than Dr. Amer Smajkić to continue to lead BHAAAS on this upward trajectory," said Prof. Ismar Volić. The meeting highlighted that 2022 was one of the most productive years for BHAAAS since its establishment. Thus, in 2022, BHAAAS members implemented a large number of projects of broader social importance, a representative number of scientific papers were published, many new members were admitted, and most importantly, the most successful scientific conference, “13th Days of BHAAAS,” was held in Sarajevo. New projects that will mark the coming year were also presented. The members were also addressed by the Deputy Chief of the US Mission in BiH, Deborah Mennuti, and the Consul General of BiH in the USA, Elvir Resić, who emphasized the importance of BHAAAS for the development of science and education in BiH and gave their support to the future projects of the academy.
