The largest scientific conference in the region, the 13th BHAAAS Days in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which takes place from June 23 to 26 in Sarajevo and is organized by the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences, places special emphasis on sustainable development. This interdisciplinary field will be addressed through four symposia with almost 30 scientific papers, with publication in a special edition of the Springer publication, on the following topics:
A panel on sustainable development will be held at the plenary session of the conference. Within the panel, the introducers will be distinguished lecturers in the field of sustainable development: James Morton Turner (Wellesley College, Boston, USA) and Stephen Kinloch Pichat (UNDP in BiH, Deputy Resident Representative, BiH), while the panelists are: Nemanja Kovačević (Ministry of European integration and international cooperation of Republika Srpska, BiH), Naida Ademović (University of Sarajevo, BiH), Maja Arslanagić-Kalajdžić (University of Sarajevo, BiH), and Tijana Tufek-Memišević (Candarc LLC, USA). The discussion will be continued at the workshop with students, where potential answers to the question, "What can I do about climate change in my community?" will be found together. "Climate change, the impact of which is already significantly felt around the world, together with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and continuous war conflicts, constitutes a multi-linked global crisis that threatens the process of achieving the necessary sustainable development. The interdisciplinary program on sustainability will host renowned world experts, representatives of the international community, local authorities, and professional organizations, thus providing a platform for the necessary actors to engage with each other on how to achieve sustainability in different areas," said the program manager, Tijana Tufek-Memišević. Cities and urban areas are at the forefront of necessary changes because the consequences of crises are most evident in them. Therefore, the sustainability program is also supported by the International Association of City and Regional Planners, ISOCARP. A special interdisciplinary session entitled "The New European Bauhaus and Us: Context, Purpose, and Opportunities," which will be led by Dr. Selma Harrington, is supported by the European Council of Architects (ACE) and opens a platform for dialogue and cooperation among creative professionals interested in synergy in the built environment, culture, and society for the purpose of sustainable development. This year, special support for the conference will be provided by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which has been structurally working on sustainable development for many years through several implemented and current projects. By helping the economy, agriculture, as well as rural parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, UNDP aims to directly contribute to sustainable development in all social spheres of life in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We remind you that at the 13th BHAAS Days, 33 symposia are planned at four locations, with lecturers from 26 countries who will hold over 350 presentations and lectures. In addition, the 13th Days of BHAAAS in BiH will implement 16 workshops, round tables, and special programs.
