MEDTRONIC DONATES BACLOFEN PUMP THANKING BHAAAS INITIATIVES

For the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a baclofen pump was installed at the KCUS Neurosurgery Clinic. Thanks to the continuous education of doctors and medical staff, this service will now be provided at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. So far, patients with an indication for this procedure have been transferred outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for installation but also controls. The pump was donated by the company Medtronic at the initiative of the president of the Bosnia and Herzegovina—American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Nirvana Pištoljević, with the influence of Dr. Kenan Arnautović, which he secured. The costs of delivery and VAT were borne by Tuzlafarm. The value of the installed baclofen pump is 20,000 KM. The introduction of the new service will facilitate the treatment of patients and achieve significant financial savings. Within the program of continuous education of doctors and medical staff of KCUS, Dr. Edin Hajdarpašić from the Clinic for Neurosurgery was educated in Slovenia, which qualified him to perform this operation. The team that operated consisted of neurosurgeon Dr. Edin Hajdarpašić and others. Adi Ahmetspahić, and Dr. . Omer Nahed Eneim from the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Clinic. Namely, the pump is implanted in patients who have uncontrolled muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal injuries, or other diseases. In these patients, oral medication cannot control the spasm. By installing a pump containing the drug Baclofen directly into the spinal column, permanent and continuous dosing of the drug is achieved, which helps prevent spasms and improves the patient's quality of life.
