Knjiga Aleksandar Hemona - Moji roditelji - Uvod In the book "My Parents: An Introduction," Aleksandar Hemon tells the story of his parents' immigration to Canada, of their lives that were turned upside down after the siege of Sarajevo and the war in Bosnia followed, and of the new lives they were forced to build. Describing the marriage of his parents, a Ukrainian father, and a Bosnian mother, and their lives before and after the devastating war that destroyed their Yugoslav homeland and drove them to Canada, Hemon records the refugee experience of displacement. It is a story about many Hemons, his parents, sister, uncles, aunts, and relatives, but also about the German occupation forces, partisans, singing Ukrainians, and a few confused Canadians. As always, Hemon approaches the general through the individual; writing about his Bosnian family, he shows honest, intimate details but also the dynamic, heartfelt history of his native country. Aleksandar Hemon was born in Sarajevo in 1964. The beginning of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina found him in the USA, where he decided to stay and started writing in English. So far, he has published the story collections The Question of Bruno, Love and Obstacles, and The Book of My Life, as well as the novels A Man Without a Past, The Lazarus Project, How the Zombie Wars Began, and This Is Not Yours. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a "genius award" given by the MacArthur Foundation. In 2017, he was awarded the American PEN award for the oral history of Bosnian refugees, "How Did You Get Here?" Tales of Displacement”. (https://www.klix.ba/)
