As part of the promotion of the publication of the first guidelines in the treatment of breast cancer in BiH, a cocktail party was held in Sarajevo, organized by Dr. Lejla Hadžikadić-Gušić and the Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) Bosnian Medical Education Fund that supported the creation of the Guidelines under the leadership of Dr. Hadžikadić-Gušić. Dr. Hadžikadić-Gušić is a respected surgical oncologist at the Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute (Breast Surgical Oncology) from the USA and a member of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS). This project, funded by the Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) Bosnian Medical Education Fund and supported by BHAAAS, enables doctors and health institutions to improve and implement state-of-the-art procedures in the treatment of this vicious disease. The cocktail party, held on the one-month anniversary of the publication of the Guidelines in the renowned peer-reviewed Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Science (BJBMS), attracted a large number of BiH oncologists and other medical experts. The gathering was attended by pathologist Prof. Ph.D. Ermina Iljazović from the University Clinical Center Tuzla; dr. Edin Bećiragić, general surgeon at Abdulah Nakaš General Hospital; dr. Una Delić, radiologist; Anela Zorlak, genetic advisor and entrepreneur; members of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences; other doctors and experts in the field, representatives of breast cancer patient associations, and representatives of the media. It was emphasized that the media are an important link in the formation of a network of experts. One of the goals of the program is to strengthen cooperation with the media, to continuously report on the activities of the program and create a media platform that will also serve to raise awareness among the general public. In addition to above mentioned event, Dr. Hadžikadić-Gušić was in Sarajevo for the SaMed conference. She was an invited honorary guest, participated in a panel discussion and gave a speech on the history of breast cancer treatment.
