The Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Sciences and Arts (BHAAAS) welcomes the Draft Law on Higher Education, drawn up on the initiative of the Government of Sarajevo Canton (KS), that is, the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton. "This law will stimulate scientific production at the world level, raise the visibility of our institutions in international rankings, and increase the attractiveness of the university as a partner for the economy," states BHAAAS in a press release. As pointed out, the modernization of the higher education system is an integral component in the development of the knowledge-based economy. "One of the ways to achieve this is to establish rigorous criteria for research work and advancement, while at the same time recognizing the specificities of different scientific areas, fields, and branches, as well as evaluating the overall quality and work of the academic staff, whose assessment is left to the representatives of the academic community. If we want to build a country based on knowledge, we must urgently improve our education, implement urgent and necessary reforms, and keep up with modern education systems," the statement said. In this context, one of the conclusions of the recently held scientific conference "12. Days of BHAAAS in BiH" is that this is the ultimate moment for BiH. Universities, and especially the University of Sarajevo, as the largest and most important institution of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, should urgently join the global trends in research, publication of scientific publications, and criteria for academic advancement.
