Public Online Lecture by Prof. Dr. Kenan Arnautović on Hemangioblastomas of the Central Nervous System

On October 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM, the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ANUBiH) organized a public online lecture via the Zoom platform, delivered by Prof. Dr. Kenan Arnautović, Professor of Neurosurgery at the Semmes-Murphey Clinic and the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Tennessee, Memphis, USA.

Dr. Arnautović is also a member of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), former President of BHAAAS, and a domestic member of ANUBiH.

The lecture, titled “Hemangioblastomas of the Central Nervous System: Microsurgical Resection, Personal Experience and Meta-analysis”, attracted a large audience from the fields of medicine, academia, and clinical practice.

During his presentation, Prof. Dr. Arnautović discussed modern approaches and results in the treatment of hemangioblastomas—complex central nervous system tumors that occur both sporadically and in patients with Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome.

He emphasized the importance of precise microsurgical techniques, presented his own experiences and outcomes from international practice, and shared a comprehensive meta-analysis covering demographic, geographic, clinical, and surgical data from relevant literature.

His lecture provided valuable insights into the intricate aspects of treating these rare tumors and generated great interest among participants.

Prof. Dr. Kenan Arnautović is a distinguished neurosurgeon with an international career and outstanding contributions to neurosurgical science and education.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo, and continued his neurosurgery specialization in Europe and the United States, where he obtained certification from the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

He currently works at the Semmes-Murphey Clinic and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, USA.

Eighteen years ago, he founded an International Neurosurgery Fellowship Program, which has been attended by over 40 neurosurgeons worldwide.

He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific papers published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Neurosurgery, and has edited several books in the field of neurosurgery.

Prof. Arnautović also serves as Vice President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), and is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As a former President of BHAAAS, he has made an invaluable contribution to strengthening scientific collaboration between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora, as well as to the international promotion of Bosnian medical professionals.

His dedication to science, education, and humanity makes him one of the most distinguished ambassadors of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s scientific community in the world.
