As part of the 17th Days of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), the workshop “Obesity in Clinical Practice: From BMI to an Individualized Therapeutic Approach” will be held within the First International Symposium on Endocrinology and Diabetology.
The workshop will take place on June 7, 2026, at the ASA Institute in Sarajevo, offering a clear, structured, and immediately applicable clinical approach to the assessment and treatment of obesity in everyday medical practice.
Through a practical and interactive format, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of modern approaches to obesity management—from targeted medical history taking and clinical assessment, through diagnostics and severity evaluation, to identifying complications and overall cardiometabolic risk. Special emphasis will be placed on the use of practical tools and algorithms in daily practice, as well as on accurate interpretation of findings and clinical decision-making.
The workshop will also cover the importance of body composition assessment, the practical use of Tanita scales, and interpretation of key parameters, along with monitoring therapeutic response through changes in body composition. Participants will work on developing individualized treatment plans, including both non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches, with a strong focus on professional, empathetic, and non-stigmatizing communication with patients through real clinical case discussions.
The workshop will be led by distinguished experts in endocrinology:
Dr. Enra Đešević, Dr. Dženana Halilović, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selma Jusufović.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge, with a limited number of seats available.
