The ophthalmological program of the Sixth International Ophthalmological Symposium, held as part of the 17th day of the BHAAAS Academy in Sarajevo, was dedicated to innovations, education and contemporary surgical and diagnostic approaches in ophthalmology. Through a rich and carefully structured program, the symposium brought together leading experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora, enabling the exchange of knowledge and experience in accordance with the latest world standards.
Special emphasis was placed on practical education through the school of eye biometry, where participants had the opportunity to improve their understanding of precise preoperative measurement and selection of intraocular lenses. The importance of accurate biometry is highlighted as a key factor for achieving predictable refractive results after cataract surgery, with a focus on reducing refractive surprises and optimizing outcomes in different clinical situations.
A significant part of the program was the School of Radiology and Ophthalmology, which emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and quality communication between ophthalmologists and radiologists. Through lectures by internationally recognized experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the USA and Austria, the participants had an insight into modern diagnostic protocols and clinical algorithms, with the aim of improving the precision of diagnostics and therapeutic decision-making.
And in the oculoplastics session, the former president of the European association of oculoplastic surgeons also participated, we had the opportunity to see the latest techniques and methods of operative procedures.
The symposium particularly emphasized the importance of supporting young ophthalmologists through competitive sessions and awards that include international wet lab trainings abroad, which further encourages scientific research work and the professional development of a new generation of experts.
The ophthalmology program of BHAAAS once again confirmed its importance as a platform for connecting experts from the region and the diaspora, strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation and improving clinical practice. Through this approach, BHAAAS continues to contribute to the development of modern ophthalmology and to raising the quality of health care in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.
