Urgent need for support to cultural institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina

We are witnessing that another cultural institution, the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NUBBH), is facing financial challenges due to which they announced the cessation of work after 79 years of existence. In this difficult period, BHAAAS, which brings together the academic community in BiH and the world, wants to draw attention to the urgent need to address the sustainability of cultural institutions at the state level and appeal to the responsible government institutions to take responsibility and find a mechanism to provide support to the culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Within BHAAAS, the HARTS department is active and has continuous cooperation with numerous cultural institutions with the aim of jointly promoting the importance of cultural heritage and education, and we have a need to speak out about the difficult situation of important institutions such as the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In that spirit, we share an interview with our member, Amila Buturović, professor of the history of religion and culture at the Department of Humanities at York University in Toronto, which provides a deeper insight into the importance of preserving cultural heritage and the role of the academic community in that process.
