Within the framework of the 15th Days BHAAAS: an agreement was signed on the cooperation of BiH doctors in America and Germany for the purpose of strengthening medical departments in BiH

During the 15th Days conference of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) in Sarajevo, June 20-23, 2024, the latest advancements in various medical disciplines were showcased. Professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina, residing across the globe, gathered to share their knowledge and experience. Their presence demonstrated a deep appreciation for their home country and a commitment to advancing medical practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the introduction of cutting-edge innovations at the BHAAAS Symposia.

A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the largest Bosnian-Herzegovinian medical diaspora in Germany, the Society of Doctors from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Germany (BHÄG), and BHAAAS. The meeting was attended by Dr. Eldina Nizamić, president of BHAAAS, alongside Dr. Adnan Begović, Dr. Nina Jovanović, and representatives of BHÄG, including Dr. Samir Smajić, Dr. Mirza Pojskić, and Dr. Anisa Gradaščević. Dr. Emir Pinjo, representing Bosnian-Herzegovinian doctors in Norway, also joined the initiative and expressed his support for the association's future efforts.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and methods through exchange programs for students and doctors (internships, fellowships, clinical placements) in German clinics, with doctors of Bosnian origin facilitating mentorship. This cooperation will focus on strengthening medical departments in Bosnian and Herzegovinian clinics interested in these partnerships. One of the first projects aims to further develop modern spinal procedures in the neurosurgery department of the University Hospital Sarajevo through mentoring and training young doctors in German clinics. Additionally, the improvement of functioning of operating theaters in Sarajevo and other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina is planned.

It was reiterated that the focus and mission of these organizations are only achievable through robust cooperation with medical professionals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the goal of improving access to healthcare for all citizens. Both organizations acknowledged their commitment to the noble medical profession and agreed that transparent communication among their members will form the foundation of their relationship with colleagues in Germany, the United States, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The collective enthusiasm and shared vision for advancing healthcare in Bosnia and Herzegovina inspired participants to work together towards a better future. Inspired by the words of esteemed writer Meša Selimović, who once said that the most beautiful thing in life is a desire, participants committed themselves to realizing their hopes for the benefit of their colleagues and patients in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Together, the BHÄG and BHAAAS communities strive to present science and knowledge in the best possible light, with the ultimate goal of improving the health of people in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
